After living in Rio Rancho, New Mexico for 18 weeks, we returned to our Kansas City home in mid-March.
Since arriving home, I have been trying to write posts about our experiences living in the Albuquerque area. At the time of this writing, I have only published one.
Finishing Our Remodeling Projects
Every day since we pulled Sully, our 5th wheel, into the RV port behind our house, we have been working to complete the remodeling projects left unfinished when we started traveling in October 2017. Painting, laying carpet, more painting, sorting through stuff, donating stuff, selling stuff, and hauling it off. And on and on and on.
Last week, after 35 days of work, the house was finished.
One week ago today, the For Sale sign went up in the yard, and the showings began. We are under contract and plan to be moved out before the end of May.
New Plan – Living Full-time in RV
We will be living full-time in our RV. It just makes sense.
In our first post, Plans Change, we shared our decision to sell our large house and downsize to a smaller one on a large lot. After many projects and tough decisions, we shared The Only Constant is Change, telling you about Andy’s career decision.
For the last 17 months, Andy has been working as a travel nurse, and we have been sharing our life on the road. Because we had the house in Missouri with projects to finish, we limited the distance we traveled for jobs.
We want to spend our time between jobs visiting our family and friends. Going to necessary appointments and just relaxing.
With nearly one and a half acres to maintain, we spent a good portion of our time between jobs working on the yard. When time allowed, we worked on remodeling projects.
The next several weeks will be BUSY as we continue to pack, sell, donate and trash stuff.
Long-term Commitment?
After selling the last two houses that we thought would be our long-term homes, we are not ready to make a long-term commitment as full-time RVers.
We rented a storage unit for items we are packing away to review later. Some furniture will be in the unit for the day we decide to leave the road. Or, the day we decide we aren’t leaving and sell it.
As we make this life change, we will continue to share our downsized life with you.
If you enjoyed our early remodeling posts, you will like seeing the additional changes we made, as well as pictures of the finished product. Those posts will be available soon.
And, of course, we will share our transition from part-time RV living to full-time.
We are excited and anxious to get back on the road!
Congratulations. I also agree the only constant is change. Hope to see you out there. Tracy Perkins.
Thanks, Tracy. We are looking forward to traveling further and hopefully, do some boondocking. I hope Lee is doing better. I am sure our paths will cross.
