We arrived in Bernalillo, New Mexico at the end of January. Since then we have been finding places to get out and enjoy nature in the Bernalillo and Rio Rancho areas.
We soon learned that the Rio Grande in this part of New Mexico is wider, deeper and more scenic than we saw in the El Paso area. Not too long after settling in, we found a great place to walk the dogs along the Rio Grande.
Willow Creek Trailhead is less than 2 miles from Stagecoach Stop RV Park. With a gravel parking lot and easy access to the Willow Creek Bosque and trails, it is a local favorite.
We walk the 1.75-mile loop from the parking lot, through a wooded area and along the Rio Grande. The dogs love this place because the smells are different than in the RV park and they are guaranteed a longer walk. The trail in this area consists of crushed and packed dirt. Beyond this point, the trail becomes very sandy.
Please enjoy some of the pictures we have taken during our visits to Willow Creek Trailhead and Open Space. Even in February, the trail is scenic and beautiful.
